Design & Production
A solid block of timber, a live-edge slab or a straightedge plank, with all their superior characteristics and limitations, are the starting point when designing a piece of furniture. These characteristics, combined with appropriate tools and techniques, result in unique pieces that are impossible to mass-produce.
The whole design and production process is seen as a part of a much broader picture – it’s only a small piece in a long tradition of craftsmanship, classic forms and passed-on techniques.
Majcan&Majcan makes everything in-house. That means that every production and design step is under complete control, which guarantees the clients the highest quality possible.
Each product is designed and crafted by highly skilled and enthusiastic craftsmen who have a real affinity for natural wood. The body of knowledge isn’t acquired easily and production requires a great deal of time, skilled handwork and techniques that are all but forgotten. Being involved in the whole process, from tree to furniture, is immensely satisfying and exciting.
Heavy woodworking machines have a very crucial role in the workflow. They do all the rough work and a great deal of joinery, providing the craftsmen the energy and time to invest in fine detailing and finishing. When it comes to precision, the human hand is superior to machines most of the time. When it comes to expression, however, it’s superior every time.
